Transport sector stakeholders are welcome to join us for a workshop to enhance understanding of the 2026 ‘wildfire wave’, interactions between hazards (e.g. wildfire/windstorms) and potential Green Infrastructure Interventions for railways (e.g. trackside trees, vegetation in cuttings/embankments).
Participants will gain insight into the ongoing wildfire-related hazards facing the UK and opportunity to directly inform TRADE-GREEN toolkit development.
The workshop will have three core sessions:
- Keynotes from leading wildfire researchers sharing context and lessons from the current UK fire season;
- Current challenges and hazards affecting the rail networks and tools such as FireInSite to understand these hazards;
- Prioritisation of Green Infrastructure Interventions that are most of interest for developing climate resilient rail infrastructure. Input from participants will be beneficial to represent GII priorities and trade-offs and allow us to examine the current and future wildfire threat to UK rail networks.
This workshop is part of the Toolkit for Resilient Adaptation Decision-making with Green Infrastructure Interventions (TRADE-GREEN) Project, led by Dr Daniel Donaldson (University of Birmingham) – a project funded by the DARe Hub’s third Flexible Fund.
