Kristina has a deep enthusiasm for public safety and disaster risk management, which stems from her research at Tohoku University in Japan.
Kristina’s PhD, ‘Geospatial data infrastructure for multi-agency incident management’, was funded by UKRI’s EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in Geospatial Systems and Ordnance Survey, the National Mapping Agency of Great Britain.
Adapting a systems engineering design, she has built a network of industry partners and international collaborators to identify stakeholder needs and analyse requirements that help design and develop an improved incident response system prototype. Her work focuses on real-time weather, traffic, flooding, and incident data to support multi-agencies in operational response, flood impact assessment and image analysis.
Kristina has MRes degree in Geospatial Data Science and an MSc in Management Information Systems, and has previously worked as an IT Consultant.
She won the 2019 Esri Young Scholar Award Germany for her MSc thesis, and received the 2024 EuroSDR Award for the best PhD thesis related to geoinformation science.
