Mashael is passionate about contributing towards sustainable transport systems.
During her PhD research, Mashael developed dynamic scenarios to model the future of the UK passenger vehicle fleet, capturing the co-evolution of transportation and energy systems. Her work focused on two key resource strategies: electric vehicle battery circularity and the uptake of shared mobility. By employing a holistic and dynamic approach to material flow analysis (MFA) and integrating both attributional and consequential life cycle assessment (LCA) methods, she assessed the real-time resource and environmental impacts of various passenger fleet pathways. Her research provides insights into the extent to which battery circularity and shared mobility can reduce the demand for critical raw materials while contributing to decarbonisation and environmentally sustainable pathways.
