Azhar Mohammed

Dr Mohammed Azharuddin joined the Water Group at Newcastle University in 2025 where he is working on developing a weather generator by utilising projections from climate models and UK Climate Projections (UKCP). He holds a bachelors and master’s in civil engineering, and completed his PhD at IIT Hyderabad. His PhD focused on urban floods and explored the factors that drive floods over the city of Hyderabad, India. Following his PhD, Azharuddin joined the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities, USA as a postdoctoral researcher where he broadly worked on climate change, specifically on rain-on-snow driven floods. Using the expertise gained during his PhD and on-going postdoctoral research, Azharuddin looks forward to contributing to the understanding of hydroclimatic disasters and how they shape in the face of climate change.

Azharuddin’s research is based within the DARe Hub’s work on modelling and tool development. His research focuses on developing a weather generator which provides multiple realisations of weather variables, potentially leading to generation of multiple weather scenarios. These weather scenarios will be forced to hydrodynamic models which will present a picture on the future disruptions to transportation.
