Sam Cocking

Dr Sam Cocking is a Research Associate at the Centre for Smart Infrastructure and Construction (CSIC), at the Cambridge University Engineering Department, with research interests including structural health monitoring, historic buildings and ageing infrastructure, and masonry and concrete structures.

Sam worked as a structural engineer before embarking on their PhD, and enjoys maintaining close links with industry through collaborative research projects.

Sam also has interests in civil engineering policy and was previously a member of the UK National Infrastructure Commission’s Young Professionals Panel. At CSIC, Sam has helped to establish a panel of early-career academics and professionals (ECAPP), who are developing thought leadership across areas of smart infrastructure.

On DARe, Sam will be exploring how novel sensing methods can unlock new understanding of the behaviour and deterioration of materials and structures, and how such technologies can help to improve decision making for the operation and maintenance of infrastructure assets.
