Tabea Simone Sonnenschein

Tabea is a Research Associate in the Public Health Modeling Team at the University of Cambridge, and a Postdoctoral Researcher in the Human Geography and Spatial Planning Department of the Geoscience Faculty of Utrecht University. She is interested in understanding how urban and transport planning structures can improve public health and climate resilience in an equitable manner, and eager to help to find out what works by joining the best available data and models for scenario analysis. 

In May 2025, Tabea completed her PhD with distinction, which focused on Spatial Agent-based Modeling of Urban Environmental Health Interventions. During that time she also completed the PhD Program in Toxicology and Environmental Health at the Graduate School of Life Sciences.Tabea holds a Masters in Urban and Economic Geography (summa cum laude) from Utrecht University, and from 2019-2020 she was a visiting student and research assistant at Sustainable Urbanization Lab of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology with Prof. Siqi Zheng. 

Tabea’s work for resilience will include extreme weather agent-based scenario modeling focused on flooding and extreme heat. These models include a representative population, their transport and activity behavior, and interaction with the environment, such as urban planning, the transport system and extreme weather related aspects. She will further work on the definition and testing of resilience in such agent-based models.
