DARe is delighted to announce the launch of its third Flexible Funding Call, opening up new opportunities for UK academics to work with DARe and its stakeholders to help shape the future of adaptable and climate‑resilient transport infrastructure.

Launching on 1 May 2026, this call will support two distinct funding opportunities:

  • Research Projects – Up to three projects, each worth up to £100,000, tackling priority challenges identified with National Highways, Network Rail and HS2 Ltd.
  • DARe Impact Fellowships – Up to six funded fellowships, each worth up to £60,000, for academics keen to work at the interface between research and practice, helping support the integration of DARe’s Transport Performance & Risk Analysis Framework (TPRAF) for partner organisations.

Together, these opportunities aim to deliver actionable insights, strengthen knowledge exchange, and support real‑world decision‑making for transport systems facing increasing climate risks.

Applications for both routes must be submitted by 10.00am (BST) on Monday 8 June 2026.

We look forward to supporting the next wave of DARe‑funded projects and Impact Fellows as we work together towards a decarbonised, adaptable and resilient transport system. Our first two Flexible Funding calls have been very successful, expanding the breadth of academic expertise within the Hub and building strong, collaborative relationships with researchers across the UK. As we move into the final stages of the programme, there is a real sense of momentum and excitement as we focus on delivering impact and supporting the many partners we have worked alongside over the last two and a half years.

Prof Roberto Palacin, Co-Director of DARe and Chair of the Flexible Fund Governance Committee

Both aspects of this call offer unique opportunities for researchers to become part of DARe’s extended programme of activities, working alongside the Hub’s core team and its partners during a pivotal phase of delivery. Through consultation with DARe’s stakeholders, successful applicants will gain valuable insights into partners’ real‑world transport contexts, operational challenges and decision‑making environments.
