Resilience has become an increasingly important concept in infrastructure planning and management, particularly in response to growing environmental, technological, and societal challenges. The transport sector, as a vital foundation of economic activity and social connectivity, is especially exposed to a wide range of risks. Strengthening resilience within transport systems is therefore essential to ensure continuity, adaptability and long-term sustainability.
This report examines the potential for transferring best practice in resilience from non-transport infrastructure sectors to the transport domain. Drawing on a structured literature review and series of expert interviews, it identifies key strategies, assesses their relevance, and highlights opportunities for cross-sector learning. The aim is to support more integrated and informed approaches to resilience-building in transport, reflecting the interconnected nature of modern infrastructure systems.
